Today, I'll be trying to answer an important question - for all the entertainment Formula One provides, how much does this cost? First, in terms of money, Formula One teams currently vary wildly in terms of spending on car parts and development. Teams such as Ferrari and Mercedes can spend nearly half a billion dollars on cars alone, while even 'smaller' teams such as Haas can spend more than a hundred million dollars a year. The FIA is planning to step in in 2021 to institute a price cap of $175 million, though across all teams in the sport this is still an incredible amount of money to spend. There's another cost to consider in Formula One racing, though - the sport's sizeable carbon footprint. There are a few electric supercars that already exist today. One such car is the Nio EP9 which once broke the world record for fastest lap time around the Nurburgring, the famous German racetrack. The Rimac Concept One, popularized by The Grand Tour, is another electric supercar. The Rimac has a 0-100 time of 2.5s, propelled by 4 electric motors. These supercars perform better than any traditional supercar ever could due to the higher and instant torque, torque vectoring and lower centre of gravity which improves handling and better weight distribution. There are some concept fully electric hypercars such as the 2nd generation Tesla Roadster as well as the Rimac C Two. Two weeks ago I talked about what makes a Formula One car, but today I wanted to take a look at what makes the organization itself. The FIA, the body responsible for F1 policy decisions, makes these decisions with clear goals and outcomes in mind that I feel it worth discussing and examining. In recent years, there have been a number of supercars that use both an internal combustion engine as well as an electric powertrain. The reason for this is because an electric motor can provide its maximum torque in an instant compared to ICE, which needs to speed up to high RPMs to produce high levels of torque. The Porsche 918 Spyder was a game changing hybrid supercar which boasted a 0-100 km/h in 2.8  seconds. This was achieved by combining a 447 kW 4.6L V8 engine with a 210 kW electric motor. The electric motor helped to increase the acceleration by providing instant torque. It has achieved a record for a production car of accelerating from 0-60 miles per hour in 2.1 seconds. We've seen a number of hybrid supercars in recent years, such as the Honda NSX, Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and others. Hybrid supercars also have considerably better fuel economy, not that a supercar owner would care much.

A History of Modern Electric Cars: Revival of an Industry Revival of an Industry Before the 20th century, the electric vehicle industry was considered to be all but dead with little to no advancements in the technology and no interest being generated.
